Profesi Dan Konsep Pustakawan Dalam Konteks Indonesia

Sebelum abad 19 pengakuan atas profesi yang baru berjalan sangat lambat namun sesudah abad 19 perkembangan profesi berlangsung sangat cepat. Peningkatan jumlah profesi terjadi perkembangan teknologi, kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan serta perubahan sosial. Salah satu profesi adalah pustakawan, definisi yang diberikan tentang librarian atau pustakawan yang diambil dari International Encyclopedia of Information and Library Science (Feather and Sturges, 2003) menyebutkannya dalam arti tradisional dan masa kini. Dalam arti tradisional, pustakawan adalah kurator koleksi buku dan materi informasi lainnya, menata akses pemakai pada koleksi tersebut dengan berbagai syarat. Dalam arti modern, pustakawan adalah manajer dan mediator akses ke informasi untuk kelompok pemakai berbagai jenis, awalnya dimulai dari koleksi perpustakaan kemudian meluas sumber lain yang terdapat di dunia. Dalam kaitannya dengan Indonesia, maka pengertian pustakawan sebagai profesi masih belum jelas karena adanya berbagai pengertian dan tanggapan. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan konsep pustakawan sebagai profesi belum sepenuhnya diterima di Indonesia.References
